Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or vehicle collection. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Vehicle Rental Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Jersey, you must be at least 21 years old. Age restrictions may apply depending on the vehicle type, and drivers under 25 may incur extra charges. A valid driving licence that meets the rental agreement criteria is required, along with identification and proof of your current address. Additionally, valid payment information and a security deposit are necessary, along with any other requirements outlined in the rental agreement.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be completed via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Jersey office. A booking deposit may be necessary to confirm your reservation. The remaining balance and a security deposit are generally payable upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where relevant. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, you are required to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed to document the state of the vehicle. It is your responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition as received, factoring in standard wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and associated charges applied. The vehicle must be returned with the same level of fuel as when collected; refueling fees will be incurred for vehicles returned with less fuel. Late returns may attract additional fees, so please inform us as soon as possible if you foresee a delay. You will be liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges that arise during your rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. You can find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to limit your financial liability, so reviewing them is prudent. You remain responsible for any damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless additional coverage applies. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violations of these Terms falls under your responsibility, irrespective of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Uses Policy
Prohibited Uses of the Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or other dangerous practices is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials, sub-letting to third parties, or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden, as is exceeding passenger or weight limits. Operating the vehicle outside the agreed geographical boundaries without proper authorization is also unacceptable.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by Jersey law, Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the rental amount you paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by Jersey law. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Jersey's courts.
10. Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect as soon as they are posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
